What happened to January? Where did it go?
It swallowed me whole, chewed me up, and spat me right out.
There goes the monthly newsletter—January was a total wash.
Turns out “Blue Monday” is a very real thing. This year, it fell around the 20th. Cheers to my parents for having me on the 30th; happy birthday to me!
I could talk about “getting back on the horse” or how “we are only given what we can handle.” Or, I could just say January sucks, Canadian winters suck, and we should all join hands and sing “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M.
Now that I have us united, I’ll say this: I guess it’s only uphill from here.
February is winding down and we are approaching March—a month so close to spring we can taste it. Next time we talk about “Blue Monday,” hopefully we’re referring to a gorgeous sky.
This month’s newsletter is about coping: my two cents on how to make the best of a shitty situation.
The “Keep Your Head Up” List
Sun-Snatching: If you see the sun, just stand in it for five minutes. It’s a cheap hit of dopamine that might actually make you feel human again.
Lower the Bar: If you didn’t conquer the world or hit some insane New Year’s goal, who cares? You survived a Canadian January. That’s a gold medal in my book.
Tuesday-ing: Stop trying to fix your entire life. Just figure out what you’re doing for the next 24 hours. If you make it to tomorrow without losing it, you’re winning.
Okay, your turn. Hit reply and tell me one thing that absolutely tanked for you this January. Making me feel better about my ‘total wash’ of a month is the only birthday gift I need.

P.S. If you’re also currently sitting in your pajamas wondering where the last 30 days went, you’re in good company. We’re all just vibrating at a low frequency until March hits.
